A Note To My Customers:

Recently, I've been shifting my focus away from handyman work and towards shop-based woodworking and furniture commissions.

I'm happy to report that the commissions have been piling up, and I'm now booked well into the fall of 2023.

If you'd like to discuss a woodworking project for the late fall/winter, please reach out anytime. Thank you!

Custom Woodworking

If you’ve been searching for the perfect piece to fit into a particular corner in your home, or for a simple organization solution that also looks good, or you know exactly what you want but you can’t seem to find it, talk to me about a custom-made piece. I use mostly hand tools and traditional methods to craft furniture and home accessories that are made to last, drawing on materials and techniques that have stood the test of time.

Patch Restoration and Repair

Most people can think of something in their house that’s in need of a patch-up or minor repair. You may not have the skills to fix it yourself, and some contractors may have turned you away, telling you the job was too small to be worth it to them. I’m a one-man operation, and I’m happy to do small jobs, such as patching gaps in wooden floors, stairs, trim, and molding. We’ll work together to decide how to handle each repair, so that it works best for your home.

Woodworking Classes

Make Good Traditional Handcrafts also offers small, in-person classes on a monthly basis for people wishing to begin a hobby in woodworking. The classes cover the basics of woodworking, using hand tools from the Japanese tradition, and are focused on methods that make it possible to make beautiful things at home, away from the noisy, dusty machines of the modern trade.

Testimonials

What People are Saying

“I hired Will to install two large barn doors and a long 14 ft.track. He did a great job without flaw…punctual, clean and very professional! I would hire Will for any upcoming projects. He is great to work with.”

Theresa T.

Morningside Heights

“A true master of his craft. He not only creates the perfect piece that you need, his suggestions and vision go beyond what you could have imagined. He saw a way to reconfigure part of our wall unit into something we needed versus creating a whole new piece. It’s perfection. You would think it was always that way. He’s a perfectionist, a total professional and I’m looking forward to working with Will again.”

Beth M.

Gramercy

“Will made a side table for us and it is beautiful. Will’s knowledge of wood is deep and hearing him talk about wood is fascinating. And our table doesn’t stain! We hope to use Will’s handy man skills soon.”

Alice N.

Upper West Side

“The level of professionalism was beyond my expectations. The delivery of the quality of the work was beyond my expectations and his attitude was beyond my expectations. I would never use anybody else.”

Dana O. & Robert W.

Washington Heights

“I had a vintage Adirondack-type folding chair, original paint, that was on the verge of collapse. All the pieces were fine but the hardware/folding mechanism was bent, broken or missing. Will disassembled the chair and rebuilt it with new hardware, matched the paint where needed, and saved this chair! I also had a 1920’s Art Deco mirrored-top table with loose joints and no wooden braces to hold it up. Will reassembled and restored this beautiful, nearly 100 yr. old table to it’s former glory.
Will is a master woodworker and perfectionist who takes great pride in his work. Some pieces of furniture are worth saving and I was so lucky to have found him!”

Lois S.

Carroll Gardens

“Will is not only an expert woodworker, but brings a high level of craftsmanship to other tasks as well. He has an analytical approach to challenges, reflecting his tech background, offering a range of options to fit your time frame and budget. In every respect, he’s personable and professional.”

Steve K. & Lesley A.

Cobble Hill

“We hired Will to do repairs in our apartment. He not only patched holes in drywall and repaired closet doors, he went above and beyond our expectations by filling gaps in our wooden floors with custom-made pieces. He was extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. The repairs were within our budget, efficiently completed, and showed an amazing attention to detail. I will definitely hire Will again in the future!”
